World Card Making Day

The 5th of October was World Card Making Day and here I quote the SSS blog post*;
World Card Making Day was created in 2006, and the original purpose was to kick-start the holiday card making season.” And so I did, I made my first Christmas card of this year. I used a challenge sketch from the WCMD challenge blog post by Sandy Alnock.

I stamped a Christmas image from Find It Trading. I coloured the image in with my Zig markers and the Zig blender. I used the blender instead of water because I stamped my image on Canson Bristol paper and I think this paper blends not as smooth with water than the Strathmore Bristol.

When the colouring was finished I put the image aside to dry well and in the meanwhile I cut the different pieces of cardstock and patterned paper in to the right size. The paper is from the same collection as the stamped image. Although the collection is from a few years ago it still is gorgeous.

For my base card I used a dark blue cardstock as well as for the little strip where I put the sentiment on. The sentiment is a Dutch text sticker and it says Happy Holidays.
I glued the patterned papers on top of the small red cardstock rectangles and the larger piece for the image panel. For my image panel I used foam tape to put it on top of that.

First I glued the rectangles of red cardstock/patterned papers on the base card and then on top of them the stacked panel with the image.
And to finish my first Christmas card  I put my sentiment strip on top of the panel with foam tape.
I love how the card turns out, this is also a great way to use your leftover pieces of cardstock or patterned paper.

80! A special card for a special lady.

For this card I took a 27 x 13.5 cm. piece of cardstock and folded it in half.
On the left side of the fold I masked the left side of the card, what will be the back,
with some painters tape. I then used the brick stencil with my Distress ink Tea Dye
to make the stone wall.
I die cut the door twice. I glued them together with a little piece of vellum in between as
glass in the windows. I glued the door on to the front of the card.
After this was dry I made cut with my craft knife in the middle of the door, taking care not to cut trough the door frame. On the inside of the door I made a loop of gold thread to open the door on the front I made a door knob and glued that on top of the little piece of thread that shows from the loop at the back.
Then I wrote the housnumber of the recipient  on a little piece of cardstock and glued it beside the door.

Time to make use of this great stamp from Art Impressions.
I stamped my lady twice so I could use the arm and cake to layer the stamp.
The face side of the lady I only stamped once.
I coloured the images with my Zig markers and when I was finished I fussy cut them.
I didn’t use the dies because I didn’t want a white border around the images.
Then I used a die to cut the numbers 8 and 0 for the cake and glued them a little behind the toplayer.
then I adhered the arm with the cake with some foam tape on top of the image.
On the back of the image I glued the partial lady.

With a Find It Trading die I cut some Ivy, coloured a little on top of the leaves and by adding glue to only a few places, I glued them on to the card.
With a 2 cm. strip of cardstock that I coloured with Distress ink Hickory smoke I made a sidewalk and adhered that on the bottom of the card.
Then I placed my lady on the front with some foam tape.

1 - voor de deur
On the lefthand side in the card I made with a pencil wooden panelling on both sides of the door.
I also coloured the floor with a pencil. I used a little amount of pressure on to the pencil, this way you still see the texture of the paper, this way it looks more like carpet.
Above the panelling I stamped with Memento and a very small flower from the Kanban stamp set. I didn’t inked the whole stem and placed them randomly.
I made a wallhanger and placed it with foam tape beside the door so the recipient would know that she had to open the door.

2 deur dicht
When you open the door you see the lady calling happy birthday. I placed this sign exactly on the same place as the face and it is a little smaller than the face, so when the door is shut you won’t see it on the front.
I enjoyed making the scenes (front and inside) to fit this great stamp and am very pleased with how everything turned out, although it was a very time consuming card.

Birthday card.

It’s hard to make someone’s birthday card if you’ve been giving her handmade cards for more than 40 years. Today I made a card using Zig markers and embossing powder, something I didn’t use earlier for one of her cards. It’s easy and not time consuming, just what I needed.

I started by stamping my Asters to a piece of copy paper in the size I wanted to make my panel. By using the copy paper I can see where I want to place my stamps, which one I have to mask and most important if what I have in mind is looking good on paper.
When I was satisfied with the test panel, I stamped my flowers on some masking paper and cut them out with my scissors.

Ma 2

I used a piece of coloured cardstock for my panel, it is not something I use often but because I wanted to heat emboss the stamp with white I thought it would be nice. I used my TH stamping tool and the copy paper as guide to stamp the flowers on the place I wanted them using VersaMark ink. I didn’t stamp one of the partial flowers on the right side, as you can see on the finished card
I stamped and heat embossed the flowers one by one, letting them cool down before I stamped the next one. After the flowers I also stamped some leaves. I stamped them behind the flower on the upper right side and the one on the left,  using my masks.
When everything was cold I used my Zig marker Violet on the leaves with a hint of English Lavender.
For the flowers I used the English Lavender and a little bit of Lilac. After drying I put some extra English Lavender in the shadow areas. You can only build the colour when the first layer is dry, if the ink isn’t dry it will blend in with the first layer.

I put the panel aside and cut my white base card in to the right size and went looking for the sentiment I wanted to stamp. I used a Marianne Design sentiment,  it says congratulations in Dutch.
I stamped this with VersaMark on a piece of white cardstock, the same as my base card.
I used purple embossing powder to match with the panel colours.

I glued the panel directly on to my base card while I used for the sentiment strip, 0.5 mm. foam tape.
To finish the card I used some Marianne Design pearl butterflies ( that’s how they are cold but I think their dragonflies) and some matching open circles out of a shaker collection from Lucy’s cards.
And this is what the finished birthday card looks like.

Blame it on Spring!

Today a different post than usual, it’s about tidy up things and finding a good storage solution for my markers.

There are a few things that irritated me in my craft room, one of those things are my Zig Markers.
It’s a very tiny room that I share with my daughter and sometimes I need to re-organise/tidy the place up. Blame it on Spring although I never do Spring cleaning.

I have all 90 Zig Clean Colour Real Brush Markers and they were laying on some flat lids of hobby boxes. I don’t use the lids because I stacked the boxes together, that saved space. The lids with their small raised edge, were the perfect storage for my markers at that time. But I’ve used them a lot lately and it became annoying that I couldn’t find the right colours quickly.

The end of March was my birthday and I had already looked around for a good storage solution. I also asked on a blog how people store them, I thought I had to store them laying down. But the people that answered my question about the markers all stored them point up. Because of this I found the affordable  storage solution in the Tombow ABT Dual Brush Pen Desk Stand, it can hold 96 markers/pens.
I have requested and received this for my birthday.
ABS-700x700I need glasses to read, without glasses I have trouble reading the small numbers on the markers so I decided that I would label them.  I used my Dymo Label maker (any label maker will do) and made number labels for the markers. The labels are self adhesive and I stuck them on the end of the marker where there was empty space. After that I put tape over it because I use sometimes water with my Zigs and I don’t want all the work of labeling to be ruined.

Dymo
After that was finished I wanted also label them  with the colour on top. I had done this in the past and added Glossy Accents on top of the label circles, but that changed the colours, so I removed them.
I put the colours on to a piece of water colour cardstock, the same as my colour chart and put tape over it. Well rubbed so that it would not let go during punching.
Than I used a small circle hand punch to punch them out of the cardstock and glued them on to the top of my markers.

Ponstang
When that was finished I put them in to my desk stand in the same order as on my colour chart.

kleurenlabels
Should it be necessary to lay down the markers in the long run, then that is also possible with this stand.

It looks great all those colours on top and most important it’s tidied up!

Feel better soon.

I have made this card  for a friend who just finished radiation therapy.
I stamped the whole scene first on a piece of copy paper so I could see which parts I had to mask. Then I made my masks by stamping them on some masking paper.
I also used the piece of copy paper in my TH Stamping Tool to place the stamps on the right place.
I stamped using my masks the whole scene on to Bristol Smooth paper except the “jumping in the air” frog, the sitting frog and the two Water Lilies. Those I stamped on a other piece of Bristol because I wanted them to fussy cut and place them with foam on the card.
I stamped everything with Stazon Ink because I wanted to use my Zig markers and I know for sure this ink won’t bleed together with my markers or with water.

After stamping the scene on my panel I used a blending brush, Distress Ink Tumbled Glass and a stencil I made a while ago with a Leane Creatief Cloud die, to make my sky. You can also use the Marianne Design Wave and Cloud Die Set to make such stencil. Stencils are easily to make from a piece of scrap cardstock and you can use them multiple times.
I also used my blending brush and Distress Ink Salty Ocean to give the water some colour, I masked off the parts that are in the water.

Time to colour everything. I used my Zig markers to colour with no water, sometimes I used the blender marker. The only time I used water and a paintbrush was when I add colour to the water wrinkles, this way I faded out the colour.

While the images where drying I die cut with my Marianne Design Wave and Cloud Die a wave.
For the waves strip I put  some Zig Dule Blue marker on a acrylic block, adding water and then with a paintbrush I coloured the whole piece lightly. After that was dry I stamped some water wrinkles and coloured them the same way I did with the panel.

When everything was dry I glued the panel on a folded base card.
After that I adhered the “jumping in the air” frog and the sitting frog with 1 mm foam tape on to my card. I wrote the word Yeah! on the card first with pencil and then with my black FC Pitt Artist fine liner. After drying well, I erased possible pencil lines.
The strip with the waves I adhered with 0.5 mm. foam tape to the front and placed the Water Lillie with 1.5 mm. tape on such way to the card that it overlapped the wave strip a little.
I used 1 mm. foam tape to adhere the second Water Lillie on the card and a little behind the wave strip.
And that finished my card. Although masking is time consuming, it is great to see the result.
Stamping images behind each other gives such a dimension. And if you adhere also images with different thicknesses of foam tape on your card you even have more dimension.

Finished card The Daily Marker Challenge

As promised yesterday hereby the finished card.
After stamping and colouring I die cut the word “hoera”, which is Dutch for hooray,
with my Marianne Design Alphabet dies out of the panel. I took care not to lose the little inner parts of the letters, because I have to put them back when I place my stacked letters on the card.
Then I die cut the same letters each 3 times out of cardstock and glued them on
top of each other. The letters from the panel at the top of the stack.
I glued my panel on the blue metallic base card. After this I glued the stacked letters in the right place on the card and also the little inner parts from the panel letters.
I thought the card wasn’t finished but I couldn’t find anything that fitted with the little images.
After looking around and thinking I realized that my gel pens would offer a solution.
I have different kinds and the 3D Rollers where the answer. I used the same colours as I used with my Zig markers and made an all-over pattern of tree little dots.
As with my stamps, I also let the dots run off the paper so that it appears as the pattern continues.
And that finished my card, it’s a simple but cheerful card for a birthday.

Last day The Daily Marker Challenge

It’s the last day of The Daily Marker Coloring Challenge and I am glad that I finished my colouring on time.
I stamped a background with several little stamps from a Forever Friends stamp set, to make a birthday card. I coloured them with my Zig markers.
I will finish it by die cutting “hoera” (Dutch for hooray) out of the panel and will adhere it to a blue basecard.
I hope to do that this weekend and to post it on Sunday evening.

I want to thank Kathy Racoosin, The Daily Marker, for organize this great event for the 12th time and I hope that she will do it again later in the year.
I also want to thank the Good Will Ambassadors for all their work and support.

Happy Halloween

This is my first Halloween card ever, beside the spider web stamp I don’t even have any Halloween stamps. That’s why I decided to use a flower stamp.
The gorgeous Floral Trimmings from Studio Katia was a great stamp for what I had in mind.
I stamped the flowers on Bristol cardstock and coloured them with my Zig markers.
After fussy cut the flowers I blended on orange cardstock with two colours Distress Oxide a edge to create depth in to the card.
Then I stamped and heat embossed the little spider and spider web on the left side of the card. When this was cooled down I put my flowers on top of the background.
Then I stamped and heat embossed the big spider web and the hanging spider.
The sentiment was handwritten on a piece of black cardstock with a VersaMark marker and heat embossed. By putting Glossy accents on the spider bodies and a few drops on some leaves I finished the card.
You can find the use materials under the image.

The Daily Marker Coloring Contest 2

With this card I was the winner in the beginnersgroup.

My second attempted of the “messy water colouring” technique by Lisa Tilson is quite different from the first one and with this one I also will be participate the The Daily Marker Coloring Contest (see previous post). I had the idea that I did know what I was doing in contrast to the first time. I used brighter colours but the thing I realy have to keep in mind is that this cardstock isn’t watercolour paper so I need to be careful with the amount of water I use.
I think it’s not bad at all for a second time.
You can find the use materials under the image.
