this time I made a one layer birthday card, the first colouring for The Daily Marker 30 Day Coloring Challenge.
I wanted to make my background with Distress Oxide and a stencil but I didn’t had any stencils that fit what I had in mind. I decided to design it myself using the Brother Canvas Workspace so I could, after designing it, cut it with my Scan ‘N Cut. I designed a heart stencil and cut it out of acetate because it is a stencil design you can always use.
For the photo I placed a white piece of paper underneath it.
I cut a panel from 15 x 15 cm. from Neenah Classic Crest Solar White cardstock. Using my big brush (in the photo in the upper right corner) and Distress Oxide Wilted Violet I coloured the background lightly, just enough to have a hint of colour here and there, not the same amount everywhere. This brush is my favourite when I want just a hint or a very light variation of colour.
After that I used another brush to darken the outer edges.
When that was dry I put my stencil on top of it, adhering it with some purple painters tape.
Using a tiny brush I coloured the hearts with different amounts of ink and pressure, this way you get different hearts and it even looks as if you used more than one colour ink.
With my inkpad I coloured a piece of Neenah to use it later on for die cutting letters.
After drying, I put the background into my TH stamping tool and stamped the biggest stamp from the Joy Crafts Dance to the Music stamp set with Stazon Jet Black ink. Because this is a kind of grunge stamp ( see the last photo) and I didn’t like that for what I had in mind, I filled in the spots where there was no ink with my FC Black fineliner.
I let that dry and placed some single music notes from that same stamp set in the stamping tool and stamped them randomly to finish.
I wanted to die cut letters so I could make the first sentence of the song “happy birthday to you”.
I wanted to cut them not only from the piece of cardstock I coloured but also from craft foam to give the letters more dimension. After I die cut the letters with the Joy Crafts Alphabet & Numbers die, I laid them on my background and I didn’t liked it! But I laid the purple foam letters down and they look great on the background. So I decided that I would use the foam letters without any cardstock on top. I glued them on to my background and the background panel to a white folded base card and that finished my card.
