Mr. Pumpkin Scarecrow

Inspired by the pumpkins on a Fall Art Journal page by Vicky Papaioannou and an awesome digital image by Mariola Budek I finally made my first Art Journal page ever.
I kept everything calm and it is more a scene page than a mixed media page but it is completely the page that I had in mind.
I started with cutting a page out of my journal I did that because this was my first time working in this journal, I didn’t know how my pencil blending would be on this paper and I wasn’t sure what I wanted with the image.
After colouring the image, colouring and blending colours wasn’t hard on this paper, I decided that I would fussy cut my image.
Using the head of the scarecrow as a guide I draw 2 pumpkins and colour them as well with my pencils.
I blended my background with different colours of Distress Oxide Ink, keeping in mind that I wanted to put my scarecrow in a “cornfield” and on the other page I wanted to put a fence.
Used water mixed with Distress Oxideds to splatter on the foreground.
I decided that I wanted to have a crow on the fence, so I mirrored and printed one of the  crows from the image, the same with some rocks that I needed for the front of my background.
Using design paper, ink ( to make the paper colours fit more)  and a cutting die I made my “cornfield”.
Into the green on the left page I added more yellow and red and stamped with a branch stamp to create a tree look to make the corner on the left page more interesting. See the close up photo.
I then put some Distress Oxide Walnut Stain in my TH woodgrain embossingfolder, this ink is great for this technique, and with coloured cardstock I run it trough my die cutting machine. After that I put Distress Oxide Vintage Photo on top of it and let that dry. From this piece I made my fence. The nails I made by hammer some silver brads with my TH Texture Hammer and after that I put TH Alcohol Ink Mixative Copper on top of them. I also put some the ink on one of the “legs” of a brad that I wanted to use as a headless nail. This I used in the pole where the wooden plank “came off”.
I put everything on my pages using Tacky glue, 0,5 mm., 1 mm and 2 mm. foam tape to create dimension on the page.
I finished the foreground by stamping on some places and by adding on some of the rocks Glossy Accents, this is what I also used for the eyes of the crows.

Bloemen/Floral

De prachtige, gratis, bloemen kleurles van Kit and Clowder is af en ik heb er een kaart voor een vriendin haar verjaardag van gemaakt.
De tekst is met een tekenprogramma op de computer gemaakt.
Voordat ik de gekleurde image op de basiskaart geplakt heb, heb ik de randen met inkt bewerkt zodat deze laag iets naar voren kwam op de kaart.

Finished the gorgeous free floral colouring class from Kit and Clowder and made it in to a card for a friends birthday.
The Dutch text is made with a drawing program on my computer.
I put along the edges of the image layer a touch of ink so it stands out a little bit on the card base.

Klaar!/ Finished

De juni class is helemaal klaar, ik heb fouten gemaakt, nieuwe technieken geleerd maar vooral mijn potloden beter leren kennen en wat ik er mee kan doen of niet LOL. En ik heb genoten van elke stap, niet altijd 😜, maar wel voor het merendeel.
Ik heb ook een foto gemaakt van de image waar we mee gestart zijn, wat een wonder, wat je al niet kan bereiken met een Kit & Clowder Class + hulp en aanmoedigingen van Alyce Keegan + onze liefde voor kleuren!

Finished the June class, I made mistakes, I learned new techniques but most of all I get to know my pencils better and what I can do with them, or not LOL And of course I enjoy every stap, not always 😜 but most of the time.
I made also a photo of the clean image where we started with, what a wonder what whe can achieve with a Kid & Clowder Class + the help and encouragement from  Alyce Keegan + our love for colouring!

En hier ging het fout/And here it went wrong

De maandelijkse juni Class heb ik constant simultaan gekleurd. Natuurlijk wilde ik dat ook voor de achtergrond doen.
Tijdens het kleuren van het meisje was het al opgevallen dat ik niet lekker kon blenden op het Fluweel karton. Voor de stroke techniek ging het goed, maar het blenden niet.
Ik heb 6 uur gewerkt aan de lucht, lichte lagen en lagen potlood, toen de doezelaar gebruikt, dat werkte droog niet, toen de reukloze terpentine erbij gehaald, dat hielp een beetje maar ik zag nog steeds veel tooth (ongekleurd textuur van het papier). Nadat alles goed droog was heb ik mijn blending potlood erbij gepakt, vandaar dat het onderste deel van de lucht grijzer is. Dat hielp ook niet. Ik heb reuma en moest dus uitkijken voor mijn hand, arm en nek.
Mijn echtgenoot bood aan the helpen met de doezelaar te blenden en zo de tooth van het papier platter te maken, dat ging helemaal fout. De kleur kwam van het karton. Ik denk dat na alles wat ik had gedaan, de druk die hij uitoefende te veel was voor mijn kleurwerk. We denken dat de textuur van het karton te stug/stijf is en hebben het op een ander stukje karton die niet gekleurd was uitgeprobeerd en ook dit kregen we niet plat(ter).
Dus ik ben niet meer aan het gras begonnen, dat zou een verspilling van tijd en potloden zijn.
In volgend post kun je de image op het Canson papier zien die ik uiteraard wel heb afgemaakt.

The monthly class of June I was constantly colouring simultaneous. Of course I also wanted to do that for my background.
During colouring the girl I already had noticed that blending not went well on the Fluweel cardstock. For stroke technique it was good but blending not. I have worked over 6 hours on the sky with soft layers and layers of pencil, then the stump, that didn’t work, than odourless turpentine (same as Gamsol) that helped a little bit but still had a lot of tooth. After I was sure that everything was dry after the turpentine I used my blending pencil. That’s why the sky on the lowest part is greyer. That didn’t help either. I have rheumatism so I had to look out for my hand, arm and neck.
Than my husband said, let me try too flatten the tooth with the stump again, that was all wrong. The colour came of the paper, I think that after all the things I had done and then his pressure was to much for my colour work. We both think the cardstock is to firm, we tried with a stump on a not coloured piece if we could get the tooth flat but that didn’t work either.
I have not even tried the grass, that would be a waste of time and pencil.

Bijna klaar/Almost done

De poezen zijn klaar en ik vond het enig om de dieren te kleuren.
Nu alleen nog de achtergronden.

Nog steeds aan het kleuren/Still colouring

Nog steeds simultaan aan het kleuren, de huid van beide images is gedaan evenals de haren. Het Fluweel karton is de helder witte aan de rechterkant en het Canson papier is de linker.
Het volgende hoofdstuk is de poes! Ik zeg hoofdstuk omdat de lessen van Kit and Clowder opgedeeld zijn in hoofdstukken, iets wat  het kleuren makkelijker maakt.

Next chapter is the kitten! I say chapter because the classes from Kit and Clowder are divided in chapters, that makes it a lot easier.

Dag 30 – 30 Day Coloring Challenge

Laatste dag van de 30 Day Coloring Challenge. Het is heel snel gegaan, het lijkt wel of het iedere keer sneller gaat.
Kathy bedankt voor een geweldige jubileumeditie, op naar de volgende!

Nog steeds simultaan aan het kleuren, één image huid kleuren heb ik af nu op naar de volgende. Dit is degene op het Fluweel karton, het helder wit karton.

Simultaan oefenen, omdat ik verschillende soorten papier wil uitproberen.

Het Canson karton is meer een créme kleur en het Fluweel is een helder wit karton.

Dag 23 – 30 Day Coloring Challenge

Nog steeds elke dag even tijd voor mezelf  nemen, even heerlijk kleuren!
Van een simpel jurkje naar “haute couture” met een paar kleurpotloden LOL, was het in het echte leven ook maar zo makkelijk.
Dit is wederom een kleurles van Kit and Clowder. In elke les staan meerdere technieken centraal, zoals b.v. in deze les een patroon maken op kleding waarbij je rekening moet houden met de schaduw en plooien in de stof.

This is again a Kit and Clowder colouring class. In each class there are multiple techniques, in this one for example; making patterns on cloth while you have to take into account the shadows on and pleats in the clothing.

Dag 17 – 30 Day Coloring Challenge

Klaar met een van de Kit and Clowder maandelijkse klassen, dit was de 2^e die ik gevolgd heb en het was op sommige punten een echte uitdaging.
Maar ik ben heel tevreden met het resultaat. Als je denkt dat je wel even met een kleurpotlood aan de slag kan dan heb je het toch mis. Het is meer werk dan je denkt en neem b.v de huid van de Fairy daar worden alleen al 5 kleuren voor gebruikt. Dit om aan te geven dat men het kleuren met kleurpotloden niet moet onderschatten.
Het blenden wordt in dit geval met potloden en dan met name met het witte potlood gedaan. Dit is zwaarder, kost meer tijd en geduld dan met een blending medium zoals reukloze terpentine of baby olie. Het is ook zwaarder omdat het papier waarop je kleurt niet glad is.

Finished with one of the Kit and Clowder monthly classes, this was the second one I did and at some points it was a real challenge.
But I am very satisfied with the result. If you think that you can do this with your pencils in a few moments than you are so wrong, it’s not as easy as it looks. It is a lot more work than most people think, take for example the skin, that alone is done with 5 different colours on such small space. I tell you this because a lot of people underestimate colouring with pencils.
The blending in this image is done all by pencil from dark to light and the lightest colour is white.
Blending like this is harder, cost more time and effort than bleding with a medium like odourless mineral spirits like Gamsol or baby oil. Also because the surface you colour on is not smooth.
