Yesterday, March 21, our spring started but the weather didn’t seem to get the notification.
So in the hope the cold weather will disappear I will say goodbye to it by posting my winter art journal page.
Before playing in my art journal I die cut a bunch of snowflakes in different sizes.
I also die cut all my pieces for the rest of the layout. I die cut most of them multiple times from different colours so I could give them some dimension and interest by adding them together with glue and where needed foam tape. The icicle rim I cut out of TH frosted sheets and the words I cut out 4 times each.
I used white gesso all over my pages, on some places more than other places, to add texture. When the pages were dry I used the negatives from my snowflake die cuts as a stencil for adding some Distress Micro Glaze in different places. This was an experiment, I never tried it before.
I wanted to get several layers on my background without making it all bulky or too much in the foreground.
I glued some snowflakes to the background as well.
After that had dried overnight I dabbed carefully with a towel on the places I put the micro glaze on, I didn’t want to smear out the snowflakes. I played with some Distress inks by putting reinker in a minimister and added water to it, then sprayed them on to the page. The ink coloured the white snowflakes I glued to the page but didn’t colour the snowflakes I stencilled with micro glaze, just as I hoped. When this was dry, I added ink with my blending brush so I got a slight variation of blue on the background.
After I put all of the die cut pieces together I placed them on my page to see where I wanted to put them and where I could glue some white snowflakes. Before I adhered everything I made my snowy hill and a little snow pile for the snowman. I pushed the snowman, skis, ski poles and the sled into the still wet snow, so it looks like they are actually in it and adhered them on at the same time with foam tape for dimension.
All the other pieces I adhered to the page with foam tape as well, aside from the words, icicle rim and the white snowflakes, they are glued.
I had so much fun creating this page that I had in my head for so long and finally took the time to make.
I hope you like it too.
The used materials are under the images and if you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask.
